Find Your True Self Through Meditative Line Art Exercises

Now, let’s delve into a unique art prompt exercise that will guide you to find your true self through simple line art. Here’s how you can get started:

Materials Needed:

  • White paper
  • A fine-tip black pen or marker

Let’s dive into finding our true selves through simple line art practices.

  1. First, sit in a quiet place comfortably.
  2. Run through your thoughts to understand how you feel at that moment. Allow them to fade on their own. This happens when you become an observer of your thoughts.
  3. Next, try asking yourself what one thing you like the most. It can be anything like coffee, a person, a season, a book, your dog, or any entity.
  4. Now, simply draw a very rough outline on it. You needn’t be an artist to do this. You can take help from Pinterest line art outline boards to trace the outline if you think this step is hard.
  5. Next, simply start filling the outline with all kinds of curves and keep building on it slowly and steadily.
  6. Let the corners be open-ended, like in the above picture shared. Or you may do it as you please. No rules here.
  7. Go all over the outline that you have drawn. For example, if it’s an outline of a puppy, don’t restrict yourself to the outline; you are free to move outside of it and keep it wavy! I say this because it will let you explore new horizons within you.
  8. Don’t worry if a line or two goes wrong. That’s the beauty of abstract art. All wrong lines can be corrected in the same smooth manner.
  9. While drawing these lines, you need to be totally relaxed and play along without anticipating the results or how this will turn out.
  10. Draw lines, curves, circles, boxes, dots, or any shape or a combination of all shapes as you please. Fill them entirely and finish it.

This exercise will help you relax entirely while shutting down the outside voices and noises of the world. Here comes the main part: towards the end, when you are done, keep all your drawing materials aside and ask a couple of simple questions, focusing within yourself like

  • How do I feel today?
  • What do I want from this life?
  • How do I wish to lead this life ahead?
  • Is there something that I need to look at that I would like to pursue?
  • Do I have a purpose?
  • Am I on the right path?
  • How can I do my tasks effortlessly?
  • Am I aligned and working to my highest potential?

And so on. When you keep asking such questions, slowly you get to find your answers from within. And you can deliberately and consciously move towards your true self.

Note that finding your true self isn’t an overnight-attainable task. It happens at its own pace, slowly and steadily, with lots of inner work and patience.

All you have to do is keep repeating this exercise every once in a while, edit your chart to figure out who you are and what you want to do, and keep moving ahead.

I hope this helps. As usual, I would love to see what you guys have drawn and come up with as a result of this art prompt exercise.

Don’t forget to share your work in the comments section. I’ll get in touch soon.

Until next time,

Keep ARTing,

Neethu.
